| If you’re going to wear high heels... |
SMDC Podiatrist Kirsten Moore offers these guidelines for buying high-heels:
- Buy shoes at the end of the day when your foot is slightly swollen from the day’s activities.
- Look for rubber soles for shock absorption.
- Select shoes with padding in the heel and ball of the foot.
- Choose a style that’s snug but not tight.
- Avoid backless styles.
- Purchase a shoe with a thicker, wider heel for more stability – not a stiletto.
- Heels should be no higher than 1- to 1-1/2 inches.
- Always try on shoes before you buy.
- The shoe should have a finger-width of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
- A square toe box is best. Anything else pinches from side to side and can create neuromas.
