SMDC Foundation launches 'Soul + Science Campaign'

Goal is to raise $9 million

best care to patients in the first moments of life and support to those mourning its end. It will reduce the effects of breast cancer and heart attacks. It will build a hospital that will advance health in Africa and build scientific knowledge that will advance the health of everyone.

“Philanthropy has always played an important role at SMDC,” says SMDC President Tom Patnoe, MD. “But it has never been more important than now as we launch a major campaign to help maintain world-class healthcare services here in Duluth.”

The first large contribution to the campaign came from Karla Miner, who made a generous donation to the Grief Support Center. The center recently provided her with much-needed support after the loss of her husband.

“The Grief Support Center has such a huge impact on my healing and my recover,” says Miner, who attended the Young Widow/Widower Support Group. “I wanted to make sure that it would be there to help other people.”
